How to Make Your Apple CarPlay Wireless

Apple CarPlay is a media feature that displays your iPhone and its apps onto your car’s media display. CarPlay allows you to get directions, make phone calls, send and receive text messages, and access music streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify.

Wireless Apple CarPlay is slowly becoming a feature on new vehicles. However, some vehicles only have wired Apple CarPlay, which means you have to keep your phone plugged into to access the CarPlay features. This article is for those who want the convenience of accessing Apple CarPlay through Bluetooth.

Here is how you can add wireless Apple CarPlay to your car:

Wireless Apple CarPlay Adapter

Step #1

To add the wireless feature, you will need to purchase an Apple CarPlay Adapter. These adapters range from $130 to $150 on Amazon. The CarPlay adapters only work if your car has existing wired Apple CarPlay. Most wireless dongles will support iPhone 6 or above and iOS 10 or above.

Set Up Your Wireless Apple CarPlay Adapter

Step #2

You are one step closer to having fewer cords in your car. For best use, follow the instructions on the packaging of the adapter that you purchase.

General directions for wireless CarPlay Adapters:

  1. Insert the adapter into your car’s USB port.
  2. Turn on your WiFi and Bluetooth
  3. Search for the adapter’s Bluetooth connection
  4. Pair and connect to the wireless CarPlay adapter
  5. Your phone should now connect to the wireless CarPlay adapter every time you enter your vehicle

Ta-da! You now have wireless CarPlay in your car. You can now enjoy all of the CarPlay features without all those pesky cords in the way.
