The New Ford F-150 Has a Lot of Tricks up Its Sleeve

If you’re Ford, who’s sold over 40 million trucks during the past 60 years, you have the luxury of spending some extra time adding bells and whistles to your highly developed, proven pickup truck platform. Since its launch, the Ford F-150 has been the gold standard in pickup truck performance and reliability, making it one of the most iconic nameplates currently available.

The Ford F-150 is all-new for 2021, offering new powertrains (yes, a hybrid), updated styling, an entirely new interior, and a host of other features.

In this article, we break down the Ford F-150 XL, XLT, Lariat, Tremor, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited and Raptor, and the key features that have piqued our interest.

Key F-150 Features

Spacious Interior

Perhaps a true sign of the times, one feature has stood above all the rest in terms of drumming up internet excitement— flat-folding seats.

The all-new F-150 comes with a center console that turns into a desk, mood lighting, and WiFi— all of this for about 1/20th the price of the equivalent Manhattan loft.

Extra Storage

Ford has added rear locking under-seat storage to add even more storage capabilities to the already spacious F-150. Now you can store and secure loose items or have extra storage for work or travelling.
The F-150’s rear floor can also lay flat, allowing for ease when transporting larger items.

It Can Power a Small Village

Since it seems Ford has decided the way to outsell competition is to blur the line between micro-loft and a pickup truck, it’s only appropriate that it comes with up to 7.2kW of electrical power output. The new F-150 comes with four 120V outlets in the bed and cabin and an additional 240V outlet in the bed. This output generates enough power to operate floodlights, saws, your television, a fridge, and anything else you might need for up to 32 hours.

All Digital Everything

It seems that with this generation, the F-150s evolution from analog to digital machine is nearing completion. The F-150 has now fully embraced the digital, and you’ll find screens replacing everything from the gauges to the manual. The new truck features ‘How To’ videos stored within the infotainment system and the dashboard has been replaced by a fully customizable 12-inch digital gauge cluster.

Hybrid Powertrain

The 2021 F-150 will also be the first pickup truck to offer a hybrid version. Branded “PowerBoost,” the all-new electrified powertrain features a twin-turbo 3.5 litre V6 engine mated to a 35-kilowatt electric motor and 10-speed automatic transmission. The claimed range is over 1000 kilometres on a single tank of gas.
